A cherub's remit |
---|
alone in my dormitory
where each night my pillow
cuddles my ears
easing the crown off my head
I can see out the porthole window
that it drizzles outside
after days of tedious rain
what I can't see is the sparrows
perched above my window
commissioned to watch for me
stationed there by angels
as little messengers
to bring notice to the heavens
that I'm lonely, that my heart
longs for the beloved
the distance cannot be helped
for in far-off kingdoms
our abodes we must make
whilst argentine Selene spins
and though wire and airwaves
his semblance and intonation
each evening to me bear
'tis touch my bosom longs for
and thus in mad flutter
wings and feathers
climb celestial heights
the urgency of their gossip
a cherub's ears to reach
that he may rush to my side
and gentle whispers utter
consolations the time draws nigh
when next hand in hand
we shall anew stroll together
