The Second Death |
---|
Her first child died at birth;
the doctors admonished her
refrain; too weak her system
they said, for progeny to bear
With her fourth child
(sweet boy of eyes blue
and gentlest of hearts)
it was she that died
The hospital nurses
scampered frantically
like the many butterflies
in the belly of her husband
With clear resolve and intent
the good family doctor
applied his knowledge
concerning cardiac arrest
Compressions to the chest
- the prescribed solution
firm and rhythmic
with interludes for air
In the fatherly heavens
the usual protocol ensued:
at the gate, Saint Peter accepted
her entrance application
An annunciation was duly made
by heralds celestial and a Congress
convened with Norns consulted
- her story recited, to all in full
The attendant Malakh argued
his customarily dark view
but an error had been made
the jurists were convinced
The Council of Chronos
a discovery had unearthed
of disturbance in the time flux
- the Malakh was misled
The blue-eyed boy
a bosom was to have
and she a faith to keep
- twoscore winters the extra
Thus escorted the angels
to us one of their own
sealing her fate as twice born
but also twice fallen
